Drama, drama, drama, drama, drama chameleon........

Not to be super vague or anything, but I know a lot about a particular situation, and I'm not supposed to. But I know enough and enough people to put piece and piece and piece together, and I must confess, I want to shake everyone involved. I'm not sure what to do with this information, because I promised I wouldn't do anything or tell anyone, but I'm going to explode.

I'm the bride here. Doesn't my opinion count? In this case, though, it would be far too easy for battle lines to get drawn, feelings hurt, and possibly (dramatically) friendships ruined. My own alliances are terribly muddled on this. Do I side with blood, ovaries, or common sense? And what do I do when 2 out of 3 give me the same solution? Why can't everyone involved try and look at things from the opposite perspective? I think that would clear the whole damn thing up pretty fast.

It has been far, far, far, far too long since I posted in here. There certainly hasn't been a dearth of wedding activity. (Get a load of all those negatives!) As of right now, we are seriously just down to the details. Here's what is done so far:

* Church and reception site reserved
* Dress ordered, received, and waiting in a closet
* Bride's shoes and undergarments received and ordered
* Bridesmaid dresses ordered
* Groom's kilt and accessories ordered and arrived
* Rings ordered, engraved, received, resized
* Church paperwork started
* Birth certificate lost
* Birth certificate re-order form completed
* Invitations sent out
* Bridal shower attended (Thanks, ladies!)
* Panicked

Here's what's left to do:

* Dress alterations
* Finalize florist
* Finalize baker
* Find bagpiper
* Limos!
* Send out lots and lots of money
* Meet w/ priest again
* Panic some more

These lists are by no means comprehensive.

Well, my dress is in! They said 14 weeks, but I guess they were wrong. I was thinking about picking it up this weekend, but I'm still not really sure where I'm going to keep it. If I pick it up tomorrow, well, I can send it home with Matt's parents, if they let me. Otherwise, I'm really not sure where it's going to go. I'll have to think about this some more.

Engagement ring update: it has been resized, and it fits me just fine on my ring finger now (the "right" finger, says Matt). But it's still not on the insurance. One agent told Matt they needed a copy of a bill of sale. Another agent called me back and said that the BOS didn't have enough detail on it, and they need a description, as well as the cost. So I need to have it appraised, which I was going to do today, but I'm not going to drive out in that snow. So it will have to happen this weekend or next week, maybe.

Matt completed the second step of the registration process at the church this week. Now he just needs to call and talk about the pre-Cana classes. His parents are coming out this Sunday to see the church and perhaps talk about wedding stuff.

The Wherehouse? called me this week and left a message. Apparently they were holding the room, and want a deposit or to release it. I thought that when Nicole called she was just getting information, but I guess The Wherehouse? thought it was a reservation. I'm going to call them back and have them release it....right now the date still isn't certain, so it's not worth sending in a deposit.

Not sure who is currently on the membership list...I'll have to make some additions. As of right now, here is the wedding news:

1. My sister called The Wherehouse in Holyoke, and they are sending me an information packet. Right now, they are still free for September 18th, which is our first choice of date. However, date relies on...

2. ...the ceremony itself. After hashing it out in the car ride on the way home from some family visit (there have been 4 so far...can't remember which one) we decided that Matt will speak with the priest in a local church, and find out what a Catholic wedding will entail, and if we will still be able to get married this September, or if we'll have to put it off to take pre-wedding classes.

3. Yes, I got the first check from my dad and stepmom. It is deposited in a separate bank account, and is happily waiting for us.

4. Mom's photographer offered to do our wedding too, and at the same deal he offered Mom, 50% off whichever package I choose, and a discount on reprints. We'll just need to pay travel expenses, which is not a big deal. Mom gave me his website address, but I forgot it already.

5. David's Bridal is having a big sale, and I am thinking of calling them to set up an appointment. Jenn, are you available next weekend at all? Or next week during the week? I'll see if they do evening appointments.

Major links today. I need to start getting things together, and seriously. So far, I'm really leaning to Seamus O'Rileys or The Wherehouse, depending on what fits what. I want a vaguely celtic themed wedding, with celtic knots on the invitations. I want simple favors, preferably not candy...matches, candles, notepads...something like that. Possibly chocolate-covered fortune cookies, just to be funny. For flowers...my bouquet, I really do love deep burgundy/black calla lilies or tulips. Something suitably autumnal, but not mums. I hate mums. Well, I hate mum bouquets. I like them in pots, or outside. Just not to carry around. Dress - want it to look vaguely period, and not be too jewell-y. Embroidery is kinda okay. Some kind of sleeves to hide my upper arms, and be flow-y. I want space to dance, and I want a nice, not too fancy, not too sweet cake.

Phew. That's my ideal right now...not asking too much, am I? *wink*

Things have been crazy lately, what with work, moving, and looking for new jobs, so we haven't made a lot of wedding plans. I keep going back and forth on what I want, what can happen, and everything...I want to be dressed really nicely, and have everyone look great for the ceremony, then have an informal reception. Is that too silly? I just don't know.

Last week we found out that the call center we work in is closing on September 5th. The 2 of us, Matt and me, will be out of jobs.

Last night, I had my first wedding anxiety dream. I dreamt it was my wedding day, and I was all dressed, I looked great (and I also saw Matt, through a bird's eye view...he was using masking tape to create a waistband on his kilt), my dress, hair, veil, all perfect. But...I was wearing blue flip-flops as shoes. I liked them, but my sister said, "You can't wear those, they will be too loud!"

So I said, "Okay, I will wear my red platform sneakers." (which, by the way, I do have in real life)

"No!" Nicole said. "You need to wear dressy shoes!"

"Oh, okay," I sighed. "I'll wear my junior prom shoes."

"Those are black!" she shrieked. "You can't wear black shoes to your own wedding!"

So the dream ended with me pawing through my big rubbermaid container full of shoes looking for ivory formal shoes...of which I have none.

Today's wedding planning is leaning toward Look Park. Of course, if we do end up having anything at Look Park, I'll need to find a separate caterer...which is another issue in and of itself. But we love Northampton, so it would be appropriate.

Today's links...checked out The Log Cabin and The Yankee Pedlar Inn. Both are remarkably expensive on even the least comprehensive of the all-inclusive packages. $42.75 and $39.95 a head respectively. Multiply that by approximately 150 (125 maybe) people....yowza. But I did send my Dad an email, in the interest of getting communication moving. Didn't mention the $42.75 a head, though.

Haven't done much more wedding planning. Went to the Methodist Church in Northampton, to see if I'd like it, and I did. Matt did too. So now I just need to get up the guts to call the pastor and see what getting married entails. Do I need to go to confirmation class, and get confirmed? Do Matt and I need to go to counselling? Are they already booked solid for next year? I'm very nervous.

We hung out w/ Matt's parents on Sunday, the day before Matt's birthday, and we went over some more wedding stuff. Everyone is pushing me to talk to my dad, but it's incredibly hard. The thing everyone seems to forget is that every single time I've asked him for help, every single time I've asked for time or money, he's turned me down. And I'm scared to be turned down again.

Sigh.

My engagement ring is back from being resized. As I've said to a few people, Matt included, it probably isn't one I would have picked for myself, but I love it. What I do not love is my fingers. They remind me of pigs, sausages, blimps...shapeless things that do not do my ring justice. It makes me sad. But, as Matt said, "Chubby fingers are not a deal-breaker, as far as I'm concerned." Translatation: he doesn't really care. I do, though.

It's silly. I know I'm fat, and generally I can deal, but still, I don't like to be reminded of it. When I tried on the ring, I knew it wasn't going to fit, he knew it wasn't going to fit, the ring had just been bought so I could see it before it was resized, since Matt didn't know my size. When we took it back to Silverscape, the lady made a comment, "Well, this is a little tricky since you have no knuckles." Tactful, eh?

So, my story is that I'm getting married in approximately one year to the love of my life and boyfriend of 5 years. They happen to be one and the same. Here's my wicked sappy engagement story:

Saturday morning was my birthday. Matt woke me up to do presents before we went to help Kevin move some things into a truck. He's moving far away from me (Milwaukee!) to be with the woman he loves...which is romantic and scary all at the same time. Kevin is a very very brave man. Anyway, I opened my presents from Nicole (fun carebear and fairy presents, with strawberry shortcake flip-flops!) and then my present from mom (silver cat pin - very cute). I had Matt open his anniversary presents from me, and I opened mine from him...then I opened my birthday presents from him. He got me a Billie Holiday 2 CD set, and My First Bento Box. Go look at the link so you know what I'm talking about. I opened it up, and was playing with the pretend maki, and there was a chocolate-dipped fortune cookie. Matt said, "Eat your fortune cookie."

"But it's too early, I'm not that hungry."

"Eat the fortune cookie!"

That's when I figured out that he probably wanted me to read what the fortune said. So, I started eating the cookie, and pulled out the fortune. It said:

Happy Birthday!

Check under the sushi...

So I lifted the wasabi. I lifted the maki. I lifted the bento trays themselves. Finally Matt said, "The sushi! The sushi!" I lifted a tuna roll, and there was a shiny, sparkly, diamond ring.

Matt kneeled on the floor next to me. "Will you marry me?" he asked.

"Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God."

Eventually, I did answer yes.
